People in Islam: Sheikh Mishary bin Rashid Alafasy
Imam of the Grand Mosque of Kuwait, Sh. Mishary Alafasy is one of the most influential qari (one with proper recitation of Qur’an) and Islamic vocal artists in the world.
He began Islamic Studies at the College of Qur’an and moved onto the Islamic University and Medinah, specializing in ten readings and translations of the Qur’an.
His largest body of work, outside of being a Imam is his (personally the most amazing) recitation of Qur’an, which you can find here, his recitations are to be heard, but his popularity doesn’t end there. As a mushnid (someone who sings a form of Islamic music), his songs are incredibly popular in the Muslim world. From songs like “I am the slave”, “La ilaha ila Allah” to “Tala al Badru”, Sh, Alafasy’s faith is ever present in everything he does, from his sobering recitation of Surah Al Mu’minun, to the epic “Red Betarish”, Sh. Alafasy is leaving an indelible mark on Islam and the Ummah as it moves forward, reminding us in every way that our faith is to be carried with us, not as a burden but as a glorifying force in our lives.
